A330 maintenance & type rating
For a transport aircraft such as the Airbus A330, the aircraft maintenance type rating complements the Part-66 licence for the relevant aircraft and engine combination. Category B1.1 covers, in particular, structure, engines, and mechanical and electrical systems on turbine aeroplanes; category B2 covers avionics and electrical systems. Certification privileges remain subject to the conditions of the licence and the maintenance organisation’s certification authorisation.
A Part-147 approved maintenance training organisation delivers type training within its approval scope: theoretical training and examinations, together with practical training and assessment. The syllabus and level of detail depend on the aircraft type, engine and licence category, in accordance with Appendix III to Part-66. For a first type rating within a category or subcategory, on-the-job training (OJT) is also required under the applicable Part-66 conditions; it is separate from the practical element of the type training course.

The Airbus A330-200 is the shorter, longer-range version of the A330-300. Launched in the mid-1990s, it targets point-to-point long-haul routes beyond the A330-300’s reach with a sufficient payload.
Built around the A330 family’s wide-body fuselage and wing, it is offered with three engine options (Pratt & Whitney PW4000, General Electric CF6-80E1 and Rolls-Royce Trent 700), providing a range of approximately 13,450 km with around 247 passengers in a typical two-class cabin.
Adopted by major airlines including Air France, Lufthansa, Delta, Korean Air, Qantas, Turkish Airlines and Etihad, the A330-200 remains one of the world’s most widely operated twin-engine long-haul aircraft, flying alongside its successor, the A330neo.
Why the A330-200?
Long-haul reliability
Millions of accumulated flight hours with leading airlines (Air France, Lufthansa, Delta and Qantas) make the A330-200 a benchmark for twin-engine long-haul operations.
Extended range
A range of up to approximately 13,450 km supports point-to-point transatlantic and transpacific routes, as well as services between Europe and Asia or South America.
Proven efficiency
ETOPS-capable twin-engine architecture, a modern wing and a choice of engines (PW4000, CF6-80E1 and Trent 700) optimise fuel consumption per seat-kilometre.
Established maintenance support
A well-documented fleet, a strong spare-parts supply chain and worldwide expertise among Part-145 maintenance, repair and overhaul organisations.

Alongside the civil versions, the A330 MRTT (Multi Role Tanker Transport) is the A330 family’s principal military derivative, based directly on the A330-200. It combines air-to-air refuelling, strategic troop and cargo transport, and medical evacuation (MEDEVAC).
Equipped with underwing refuelling pods and, depending on configuration, an aerial refuelling boom, it can refuel most Western combat aircraft. Its cabin can accommodate up to 300 passengers in a transport configuration.
In service with around twenty air forces, including the Royal Australian Air Force, Royal Air Force (Voyager), French Air and Space Force (Phénix), Luftwaffe and Republic of Singapore Air Force, it extends the operational success of the A330-200 airframe into military service.
